| What is a cold molded foot pocket? |
| A
cold molded foot pocked is one that is injected in a
two stages mold, with two different density natural
rubbers. The first is the bottom layer, which is
injected with higher density rubber, making it much
more rigid. This stiffness in the lower part of the
foot pocket holds more than half the secret of the
fins’ extraordinary performance, since its
inflexibility channels the whole power from the
diver’s legs to the fin blade only, unlike other
fins that wastes that energy flexing rubber
instead.
A non-cold molded foot pocket will be
much smoother and softer, but it cause much less
water displacement for the same energy spent, as the
diver must kick harder and exert more energy to
propel his or her self through the water.
The
second is the top layer, molded to be firm as well.
Not quite as thick as the bottom layer, since it is
injected with lower density rubber, making it
smoother and softer on the diver’s foot and
preventing cramps and sores. Combine these two
layers of rubber together and you will have a foot
pocket that is exceptional and far superior to all
others. |
